I simply can’t go on holiday without taking a bit of stitching to do. In fact, it often takes me longer to sort out the stitch project than it does to choose my clothes. Of course it mustn’t take up too much suitcase space.
Last week I took my Year of Stitch piece (more about that in future), some small painted calico panels stencilled with moulding paste and a ready-edged 6 inch square. As you can see, the latter got most of the attention. It is densely stitched and I will use it to demonstrate finishing techniques when I lead a workshop on Indian dowry bags (bushkiri) at Manchester Embroiderers’ Guild on 2nd September. Maybe I will call it a Douro bag after the Portuguese river on which it was worked!
